Terrorism

Offences that are charged under the various ‘Terrorism Acts’ are deemed some of the most serious, given the potential consequences.

Terrorism offenses do not just arise from the most commonly understood circumstances, such as the planting of a bomb, or equally as destructive act.

Offences can involve the following:

  • The provision of material support for an individual or group
  • Threats
  • Money Laundering proceeds
  • Membership of proscribed groups
  • Possession of prohibited items, including extremist material
  • Individuals made subject to ‘Control Orders’ etc

For an individual accused however, as much as an investigation must run its course, there is often a significant threat to an accused rights.

The curtailment to Freedom of Speech, Expression, and Association are just three areas where an individual’s fundamental rights and freedoms may in fact be violated, and thus it is essential that any investigation and/or prosecution is carried out in accordance with the law, and the European Convention on Human Rights.

Lengthy prison sentences are imposed upon conviction, up to Life Imprisonment, and therefore you must be sure that those instructed to represent you have a full grasp of the numerous sections of relevant legislation and associated human rights obligations, so as to ensure that you are defended appropriately, and further, that your rights are protected.
